The Burn Association
The Burn Association was awarded a $4,494 grant from the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund to purchase pumps and plumbing to equip their trucks to keep controlled burns under control in Jewell County.
Controlled burns help prevent wild fires like we have seen in Southern Kansas in recent years and it also improves the quality of grazing. However, even controlled burns can be dangerous. Having access to water and fully functioning equipment is essential to keep everyone safe.
"What a blessing to receive grant money for our fire related needs!" said Charles Smies. "As a rural burn association, we operate on a very small or non-existent budget and these grants help us to fulfill our mission and keep our volunteers safe. We were able to buy a gas engine with diaphragm pump, transfer pump, and leg tank with the grant money. Thank you!"
